  • Have a mail processing center in your home. It should be located near the location where you habitually open your mail. Have a letter opener, trash can, and a tray or basket in which to sort your mail. Sort into categories such as:
    • Flyers/Events/Items of the Calendar
    • Bills
    • Correspondence
    • Newsletters
    • For ________ (names of other family members).

Get rid of the junk mail, glossy pizza flyers and direct mail solicitation as you come in the door. Having this system in place will prevent paper avalanches and keep your horizontal surfaces much neater.

  • Provide each family member with their own laundry hamper. Have a set laundry day each week. Make your family responsible for sorting their laundry hamper into a laundry sorter, near your washing machine, before laundry day. Laundry sorters can be purchased at many local stores like Target and Wal-Mart. Label your sorter with headings such as "Whites", "Colors", "Towels", "Uniforms", "Jeans/Work Clothes".

  • When expecting out of town guests, make them feel welcome by preparing a Toiletry Basket. This can be any medium to large basket. Fill it with towels and washcloths, soap or bath gel, lotion, and a few magazines that you have on hand. Your guests will feel welcomed and appreciate having these items prepared for their stay.
